He's Here and He's Huge!

Harris Alec Wenning arrived Sat. March 29th at 3:18pm. He weighed 10lbs 11ozs and is 23in long. Rocky, Cassie and I arrived at the hospital around 8am and my midwife broke my water shortly after 9am. So that's when I hoped it would be like Sophie's birth, with contractions starting on their own and a baby 3 hours later.

Well, 3 hours later I was being hooked up to an IV so I could receive Pitocin to start contractions. On the 4th try the 2nd nurse found a vein and my contractions started slowly. As they turned up the Pitocin the contractions became challenging shortly after 2pm. I asked about getting a little pain relief but my midwife encouraged me to wait and use my breathing. Within a hour I went from 5cm to ready to push. Except I wasn't ready!!!! I hate pushing! Luckily Rocky reminded me that with Sophie's labor I found that kneeling helped. So I turned around on the bed and that did the trick!

And you read correctly, Cassie was there for the whole thing! She was very brave and helpful. Sophie opted to spend the day with her cousins and that was probably the best plan since I was a lot more vocal during this labor. I think she would've been traumatized. Cassie was adopted by Nurse Becky whom she assisted with Harris' clean-up and footprints, etc.

Every one's healthy and happy to be home. (I hate hospitals and we were discharged 24 hours after his birth.) Now my focus is on getting the hang of nursing again. It's been awhile.
